Weather forecast for Australia Day weekend
THIS Australia Day weekend will toss up a variety of weather conditions for the region.
Harry Hendon, from the Bureau of Meteorology, said for all intents and purposes Australia Day this Sunday will be a “good day”.
“Top of 33 in Biloela with a slight chance of showers in the afternoon and early evening,” Mr Hendon said.
“Theodore has a high chance of showers and storms on Saturday before clearing on Sunday.
“On Sunday the forecast for Theodore is partly cloudy with a maximum of 25 degrees with a 10 per cent chance of rain.”
There is a decent chance of showers continuing today and into Saturday on Thangool race day.
“We will see a medium to high chance of a shower or thunderstorm today but more likely on Saturday,” Mr Hendon said.
“We could see 5-20mm if you get under one of those showers and thunderstorms on Saturday.
“Sunday we see that shower activity move inland.”
In addition to some possible showers, the hot and muggy days will continue for the rest of today and into Saturday.
“For today and tomorrow we have moisture sticking around so it’s been uncomfortable during the day and night and it looks like that is the picture for the next two days,” Mr Hendon said.
“This is reflected with the minimum temperatures because the humidity keeps the warmth trapped in overnight.
“ The minimum Saturday morning will be around 24 degrees and then 22 on Sunday and Monday.”
Into Sunday and early next week, the forecast is that the humidity will drop back with maximum temperatures still in the low to mid 30s for the next seven days in Biloela.
Unfortunately Biloela has missed most of the shower activity in recent days with only 2mm recorded in Biloela since Thursday morning whereas the Red-Hill weather gauge southwest of Biloela has recorded 20mm over the same period.
