THE controversial Washpool Street roundabout will stay and others will be installed as part of the council's road safety program.
The roundabout was bolted to the intersection of Washpool and Kroombit streets, much to the displeasure of nearby business owners and residents.
Banana Shire director of engineering services Collin Head said they had addressed all the concerns raised and found that the roundabout met all safety and traffic standards under Austroads Specifications.
“The introduction of traffic management devices along collector roads such as Washpool Street and Prairie Street, is to provide a speed controlled environment in residential areas resulting in safer solutions to local traffic,” Mr Head said.
He said roundabouts would be put at the Rainbow/Prairie street intersection (near the swimming pool) and Washpool/Prairie streets (near the junior league fields).
The T-intersections on Tiamby/Kroombit Street and Hospital Road/Prairie Street will also be altered.
