Uni runs over tired biloela

A TIRING Biloela rugby union team suffered a 33-10 loss to a committed University side in Rockhampton on Saturday.

University started the game strongly with powerful ball runners testing the Biloela defence.

Although committed, Biloela tended to target these runners too high and allowed the University side to make easy metres.

This provided room for their outside backs and University skipped out to a 14-0 lead before Biloela responded with a try from Luke Milne.

Milne crossed the line after some excellent pick and charge by Matt Kurtz and Andrew Letich close to the ruck.

The try was unconverted and narrowed the home side's lead to 14-5.

Biloela had a number of opportunities to add to this score with Josh Wragge getting close on numerous occasions, but poor decision-making and not getting the ball to the outside backs meant these opportunities went without reward.

University added to their score with another converted try in the lead-up to half time, giving them a 21-5 lead at the break.

After half-time Biloela tried valiantly, but there were few scoring opportunities in the opening 15 minutes.

This changed when a determined and powerful run by Roger Walep allowed him to cross the line after lead-up work by Aaron Wragge left a trail of defenders in their wake.

The try was unconverted and the score was 21-10 to the University side.

Biloela was unable to reduce this lead as injuries and fatigue allowed University two more tries - one of them converted to blow the score out to 33-10. Andrew Letich was unlucky not to reduce the difference when an excellent run was halted near the line.

Biloela's best on the day were Roger Walep, Andrew Letich and man of the match went to Justin Pokerier.

Biloela's next game is at Rugby Park against Colts on Saturday.
