Tyler picked in Qld squad

14-year-old Tyler Seagrott will travel to Melbourne next Friday as a member of the Queensland Schools Swimming team to complete in the Australian School Nationals.

This is the second time Tyler has made the Queensland team competing in the Schools Nationals in Darwin when he was just 12.

Tyler will have four swims in the multi-class section (swimmer with a disability) including 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke and 100m and 200m freestyle.

Tyler received the invitation to join the Queensland School Swimming team on 26 April. Since then, he has been travelling each weekend to Rockhampton to swim under the watchful eye of swimming coach Jodie Shanks.

"She has been a wonderful mentor for Tyler during this time. He has also been in a personal training program with Brett Perry from Biloela Fitness. He attended a swimming carnival on the weekend at Emu Park and even though it was a short course carnival, it was a great hit out and test to see how he is going and recorded PB's in all 4 swims he will be competing in,” Tyler's mum Kim Seagrott said.

They will leave for Melbourne on the July 26 with the Nationals being held from July 28 to July 31.
