The region’s best young athletes need funding
WITH a host of young athletes off to the State Championships a small club wants to raise thousands to support them.
The Biloela Little Athletics club are holding a sausage sizzle fundraiser in the hopes of raising $2,000 for the 10 athletes they have representing the club at the State Championships in Brisbane from March 13-15.
Joselyn Thornton from the Biloela Little Athletics Club said the goal is to raise $200 per athlete to help out with expenses.
“For anyone to get to the stave level is good and this is great for our small club,” Thornton said.
“We haven’t done a whole lot of fundraising in the last few years so hopefully we can raise some money for our kids.”
The 10 athletes to represent the Biloela Little Athletics Club at the State Championship are; Jamen Goodger, Lincoln Goodger, Clae Thornton, Emily Authurs, Kobi Symes, Hayley Thornton, Mackenna Goodger, Ruby Thornton, Summah Thornton and Callie Symes.
The above athletes were selected after impressive showings at the Regional Championships in Rockhampton held last September.
“With the new committee now at the club we want to jump-start our fundraising and presence,” Thornton said.
“This is why we’ve also created a new Facebook page to spread all the things we intend to do like our fundraisers and sign-on day.
“We are only a small club and we want to get our name out there and get people to join up with us.”
The sausage sizzle will be held outside of Home Timber and Hardware Biloela who are donating products as part of raffles and a moneyboard.
8am-11.30am, 124-134 Callide Street, January 18.
