The power of reading spreads in the region
THE region’s first registered street library has been unveiled right here in Biloela.
Blue Care Biloela have overseen the entirety of the street library project which is a mini-library on wheels where residents can take, read and exchange books to promote the value of reading.
The street library was unveiled at Blue Care Biloela this morning by Banana Shire Council Mayor Cr Nev Ferrier Biloela and Blue Care Multi-Service Manager Debra Boon.
“It was something that caught our eye and our elderly clients like to stay involved with the community,” Ms Boon said.
“It’s sharing a love of books and bringing people together.
“There’s a lot of children that come past here every day and it’s a good opportunity for schools to see this and explore it.”
The street library has been under construction and designed for four months with Biloela Blue Care’s own Maya Patel responsible for the artwork and the Biloela Men’s Shed responsible for construction.
“Someone had whispered Maya was a talent and we didn’t know what to do with it and she just took over the design and ran with it,” Ms Boon said.
“It needed to be bright to attract people and it’s just that.”
Ms Boon said the street library would be wheeled out in front of Blue Care Biloela between the hours of 7.30am-5pm each day.
