Thangool prepares for the Battle of the Bush qualifier race
RACING: It will be a battle of what the best local racing has to offer when the 2019 TAB Battle of the Bush Thangool Qualifier kicks off on May25.
There will be a five-race program at the Thangool racetrack, with the first race being the 2019 TAB Battle of the Bush Thangool Qualifier Open Handicap 1200m.
Race club president Pat Brennan said the series would give local trainers and riders the opportunity to go down to Brisbane for the bigger prize races.
"There are 16 races around the bush in Queensland and the winner of the qualifiers gets to go down to Brisbane and try their luck,” Brennan said.
"We are having five races on the day, including that one, and it will be another great day for the punters.”
The Battle of the Bush Series has 16 qualifiers - the first one was on April 20 at Gladstone Turf Club - and culminates in a final at Tattersall's Tiara Raceday at Eagle Farm on June 22.
There are even more incentives for country participants to get involved and for punters to get behind the series for $125,000 (plus a $30,000 QTIS winner's bonus) at the historic Eagle Farm Racecourse.
Brennan said there had been work done at the racetrack to get it ready for the popular race meet.
"We have been putting in some extensive work with the track by planting ryegrass around the track and it grows well in winter and has a good green look about it,” he said.
"It will be a good day for the races and there will be some quality jockeys and horses for the event.”
