Ted, you have won a car

LUCKY LAD: Ted and Val Johnson with their new win and the crossword that helped them win.
LUCKY LAD: Ted and Val Johnson with their new win and the crossword that helped them win.

TED Johnson won't be hanging up the phone without thinking twice again.

He now knows it could be the call that could change your life.

“I thought it was someone selling something, so I just hung up. Then the phone started ringing again and I almost didn't answer, but then when I did they were saying 'you've won a car',” Mr Johnson chuckled.

“I just couldn't believe it,” he said.

When the 82-year-old Biloela man completed the word search in Take 5 Magazine, he never thought he would win a car.

“Ted does them every week,” Ted's wife, Val, said.

Once he finished the word search Mr Johnson sent it away to the Take 5 offices, for judging, not expecting to win anything.

But then he received 'that' phone call.

“It's better than winning the casket,” the pair smiled as they spoke of their new Toyota, valued at $19,000.

“We ended up with a new car, now we'll just have to see how it goes” Mr Johnson said with a grin.
