NETBALL: Competing in the largest state event ever hosted by Netball Queensland, Emerald netballers have shown top skills, resilience and great sportsmanship at the Nissan State Age Championships 2017 last week.

Held at Pine Rivers Netball Association, the championships attracted 236teams, with more than 2500 players and officials.

Emerald Netball Association teams contested four age divisions from 12years to 15 years, including two 12 years sides, 13 years and 15 years.

"The format to this year's championships was different to previous state age carnivals, where the first two days saw preliminary pools contested from which the teams' results determined their play-off pools,” Emerald Netball Association coaching convenor Debbie Hall said.

"ENA's 13 years team lost just one game in the preliminaries to land in division two for the play-offs.

"They eventually finished in fourth place in what was a very tough division with high-pressure games being decided by just one or two points.

"ENA's 15 years team drew a tough preliminary pool and were placed in division six for the play-offs, where they remained undefeated with some convincing wins.

"ENA's 12A team also landed in division six for the play-offs, where they came sixth on a countback.

"The 12Bs were in play-off division eight, where they scored some great wins to place fourth.

"It was a massive event and we are happy with the way our girls played.

"It's really gratifying when umpires come up and compliment our coaches on the girls' attitude.”

Hall said five days was a tough carnival but they had come through it injury-free for the most part.

"The carnival had everything - early starts, rain, heaps of vocal spectators and some very strong, and tall, competition - but our players showed real resilience and did a really great job.”

This weekend Emerald hosts the Queensland Premier League games for the zone and spectators are welcome to come and watch.
