Strong voice to inspire Moura

INTERNATIONALLY recognised inspirational speaker, John Coutis will bring his powerful messages and remarkable story to Moura.

Coutis was born with a severe physical disability and he is without the lower part of his body, but that won't stop him from trying to inspire the people of Moura at his show.

"I'm going to bring some resilience, hope, challenges, talk about goal setting and how to get the best out of you,” Mr Coutis said.

"We get 100 people come along, I'm not going to get up there and try and change 100 people's lives.

"If I can change one person's life or help one person in some small way, that's what it's all about.”

Going to cities across the globe to speak, Coutis always relishes the chance to come back to rural Australia and make a needed impact on the community.

"I love coming out to all rural towns where people in general wouldn't get to hear someone like myself,” Mr Coutis said.

"Suicide in the country towns seems to be a lot more prelevant than in the city.

"I don't know what the reason is for that, but it hits the communities a lot harder in rural areas.

Coutis has delivered his inspirational message to over 6 million people around the world so far, and out of that he's received a number of kinds of feedback.

"I get a variety of different feedback,” Mr Coutis said.

"Right from fantastic stuff to people telling me some tragic stories about themselves like when they were going to kill themselves.

" A whole variety of things, some very challenging times and hearing that they've come through the other side.”

Despite his personal battles with his body, Coutis always trys to smile and uses humour to light up other people when he can.

"You use humour because people remember it a lot more,” Mr Coutis said.

"In fact when I was growing up, I wanted to be a stand-up comedian but I can't stand up!

"I'm doing what I love to do and I had no idea in my wildest dreams that I would ever be like this.”

Coutis encourages those who may be struggling and battling a bit to get involved and come and see him in Moura.

"It would be fantastic if they can find it in themselves deep down to get out of their comfort zone and come along and have a listen

"I would be very honoured for that.”

For tickets to John's 6pm, June 21 show at Kianga Hall, Moura, phone Moura State High School on 4997 5888.
