You wouldn't know that Monto firefighters Brad Baldwin, Justin Hiscock, Marty Harm and Steve Avis had just been named 2009 Firefighter champions for 2009.
They're not resting on their laurels; it's straight back into training after a hectic weekend of competition in Brisbane.
The Monto men backed up last year's win, as did Steve who was named Champion Firefighter.
“I need to get a trophy cabinet,” Steve joked.
He deflected being named the State's best “firie” for the second straight year, putting his title down to a strong team effort.
“They (rest of the team) deserved it as much as I did.
“It was a whole-team performance - without them I wouldn't have got it.”
Steve said the team's dedication and training laid the platform for the successful stint over the past few years.
“We put in lots of extra hours in training and it pays off.”
He said the rest of the brigade who trained was a part of the win as well.
Team-mate Marty Harm said all four men did their job in each competition event.
He said their consistency across all events was another factor in their win.
“It's becoming a habit,” Marty said of the repeat victory.
The Monto team have won the right to represent Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) at the Australasian Firefighter Championships to be held in October at Rotorua in New Zealand.
