BILOELA SES members Martina Hogarth and Cody Best were recognised for their volunteer efforts during the SES Awards at the weekend in Yeppoon.
"I was a bit shocked. It is nice to get the recognition,” Martina said.
"After years of service, it is nice to be recognised,” Cody added.
Martina has been volunteering with the local group for seven years, while Cody has been with the group a decade this year.
"I love helping the community. Giving some back for 10 years of my life is awesome,” Cody said.
"To turn around and save some people's lives and their houses and belongings, it is a good feeling.”
The honours were the first awards the pair had received for their service.
"It's not about the awards, it's about helping out where it is needed,” Martina said.
Assisting in all kinds of natural disasters and weather events, along with community events, the pair agreed it was great to be part of the club.
"The Biloela group is such a close-knit orange family,” Martina said.
Travelling to help out in other areas has also led to new experiences for the pair.
"My highlights this year has been helping out in the Cyclone Debbie floods in Rocky. It was a challenge getting out on the river, but it was enjoyable,” Martina said.
"I love getting out and meeting new people - went to Mackay and met some good people, Sarina and Capella. It's not just based here. If you have the skills and qualifications, you get out and about,” Cody said.
The Biloela SES group has only 10 members at the moment.
If you are interested in becoming a member and learning new skills, head along to their training night on Mondays from 6.30pm at their building on Callide St.
Martina's award: For ongoing and valuable contribution to Biloela SES group through your dedication to training and mentoring of SES members.
Cody's award: For the drive, dedication and special contribution provided to the members of the Biloela SES group, along with outstanding leadership and mentoring.
