RSL club turns up the heat with big show

ORGANISERS were blown away by the resounding success of the Moura RSL Club’s first annual car show, Rides, Shakers and Lovelies.

The hottest muscle cars and street machines filled up every parking space on Marshall St, with 68 entries of bikes, cars, machinery and a Mack truck.

Dani Berndsen, who was on the subcommittee that organised the event, said the RSL’s first car show brought out the best in everyone.

“They call it the biggest little club in town because it brings us together,” Mrs Berndsen said.

“I’ve lived on the Sunshine Coast and Sydney but there’s nothing like the community spirit in a small town.

“The car show was taken to another level and the majority of entrants were local, which was fantastic to see, and a lot of the cars hadn’t seen the light of day in a long time,” Mrs Berndsen said

Entrants rocked up before 9am when the public were invited to check out the rides for a gold coin, mingle and enjoy a burger and barbecue prepared by Moura Apex Club members with the help volunteers who sold raffle tickets and ran the bar.

A number of awards were presented across categories such as; People’s Choice, Most Intriguing, Presidents Choice and Best Restoration.

“President Frank Lennox and Bill Shaw approached me and wanted to do a fundraiser for the club because everyone is struggling now with the drought,” Mrs Berndsen said.

“We thought why not get people to bring their cars out and come for a cruise which was just an idea that snowballed and we had a fantastic turnout.”

There are already plans for next year’s car show to go ahead.
