TWO significant GRDC grains research updates are gearing up to be popular days as they aim to provide critical information for growers in Biloela as well as Emerald.

Next Tuesday, a host of speakers will be in Biloela to discuss topics including new chickpea varieties and how they perform, fumigating large silos, nitrogen and how it applies to Central Queensland, and getting crop nutrition right.

The talk in Biloela will also include a presentation from industry development agronomist for the northern region, from Dubbo to northern Queensland, Paul McIntosh, who will give details on the biology, management and glyphosate resistance implications of sow thistle, and look at how big the threat is in Central Queensland.

Supported by the CQ Growers Solutions Group, the updates are provided in partnership with DAF and were started 24 years ago by senior consultant and Northern Region update co-ordinator with ICAN, John Cameron.

Mr Cameron said this week the updates were designed to showcase new research and create awareness among growers who were already doing their best to remain abreast of the latest research.

Most importantly, he said, the updates were designed to show how growers could apply the findings and data to their own properties and businesses and translate this into profitability.

The Biloela GRDC Update will be held at the Anzac Memorial Club on Wednesday, December 5.

Registration will be 8.30am (9am start), with the day finishing at 3-3.15pm. Cost is $30 pp and $20 for second person with lunch and morning tea provided.

To register or for further information, phone John Cameron or Erica McKay on 0294824930 or e-mail erica@icanrural.com.au
