Recognising those who give to community
THERE are many people who make up a community but there a few who devote their livesto others in that community.
The Australia Pacific LNG Community Hero Award acknowledges those individuals making a significant contribution at a local level in Queensland.
There are many selfless people who, through their actions, have positively impacted the lives of others and their community and Jessica Stevens from Theodore is one of those people.
She has been nominated for a Community Hero Award which acknowledges those everyday people doing extraordinary things within their local communities.
Jessica was nominated by someone in the community who believes her role as secretary and events co-ordinator of the Theodore Chamber of Commerce was deserving.
She has been in the position for four years and said both roles had their challenges.
"Secretary portion has been a challenge to help get the Chamber of Commerce more active in the community and doing what we need to do to help Theodore progress to being the best that it can be,” Jessica said.
"As for the Events Coordinator position, I have helped to reinstate three annual community events back into the community - the Family Fishing Competition, Theodore River Festival and the Christmas Street Party.”
Jessica said the group had struggled to get committees to help out with volunteering over the last couple of years.
"But we are now seeing an interest in more community members wanting to be involved, not only in the events, but in the chamber and the projects that we work on for the community."
