THE comeback kid will go head to head with Billy the Kid in a night of hard-hitting Muay Thai boxing action.

Mackay boy Andrew Keogh has flown back to his home town for tonight's bout, which will be held at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre.

The 34-year-old made it clear to his opponents that he hadn't lost his will to fight tough when he won his comeback match on the Sunshine Coast recently.

The gruelling sport allows opponents to kick, elbow, punch and wrestle in five three-minute rounds of fighting.

Keogh stepped up his strict training regime in preparation, but said this style of fighting was as much of a mental mind game as it was as a physical battle.

"You have to be mentally tough," the former Mackay State High School student said yesterday.

"As much as our trainers try to build us up, they try to break us as well."

Keogh said it was rare for a fighter to walk from the ring uninjured, and overcoming the pain barrier was one of the hardest parts of this style of fighting.

"Even when you are hurt you need to have your poker face on and just keep going," he said.

Meanwhile, Billy 'The Kid' Degoumois touched down in Mackay yesterday morning feeling strong and injury-free.

He was given his name by his first trainer because of his sharpshooting attitude in the ring.

He said he was looking forward to going head to head with Keogh for the first time.

"I have been working on building up my strength... I am looking forward to a good fight... I hope the crowd will get right behind us," he said. Tickets for tonight's big fight can be purchased through the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre or at the door.
