Racing season Spring racing in full swing for region
SPRING racing fever is all over the Banana Shire with the annual Santos Taroom Cup back again for the whole family.
With fashions of the field, entertainment and five competitive races on the track it shapes up as a crackerjack event.
Dawson Jockey Club committee member Graham Rewald has been involved with the club for 40 years and believes the racing has always been hotly contested.
“The raceways have got better as the years have gone by,” Mr Rewald said.
“Racing at the moment is very competitive with good nominations, good horses and good crowds.”
Attendance is estimated to be around 600 patrons through the gates with many keen to get involved in the wide number of fashions of the field categories.
“We have at least 10 categories,” Mr Rewald said.
“As it’s a family day out, we have categories from four and under, 13-17 and the adults.
“Prize money for the adult categories its around $100 and for juniors around $30.”
Entry is $10 for 18+ and free for 18 and younger.
The first race is at 1.30pm and the bar is open from 11am until midnight.
