Qantas to offer 100 pilots redundancy

AS MANY as 100 Qantas pilots could soon be offered the boot through the national airline's first-ever voluntary redundancy program.

ABC reported on Wednesday that as part of wider job cuts of 5000 staff at the airline, some 100 pilots flying 747 and 767 aircraft would be offered the door.

It would be the company's first voluntary redundancy package, as Qantas has previously preferred to either use forced redundancies or leave entitlements to avoid cutting staff.

The latest news comes as the airline seeks to resurrect its fortunes, after reporting a more than $200 million half-year loss earlier in February.
