Pony club riding high on 50th

MOURA Hack and Pony Club celebrated 50 years of pony club at Moura during the weekend.

It was so wonderful to meet some of our forefathers who had some great stories to tell about Moura Pony Club in its early days.

The generosity of Don and Esmae Neilson, who leased the current grounds out to the pony club for $1 per year, were instrumental to the future success of the club.

The club is very appreciative to now have the free use of the grounds owned by Anglo American.

Founding president Ralph Pender and his wife Nola were mentioned many times during the afternoon as their contribution lasted for many years.

Lenny and Glenda Johnston shared lots of memories with their sons saying the best part about living in Moura were the times they spent at pony club.

That says it all!

The patron for many years back in the early days, John Gordon, made a special trip to visit the club and he along with current longstanding patron John Williamson were given the honour of cutting the cake.

The list of families involved in the club since its inception at a rough count exceeds 250, therefore the pony club has left its footprint in the lives of many.

The open jump days held at the weekend were well supported and showed the need for the beginner heights, with the 30cm rounds a great starting place for many.

The highlight of the weekend was the presentation made by the Anglo American representative.

Anglo American funded a completely new set of showjumping equipment as part of its community funding initiative.

This equipment allows members of our community, regardless of ability level, the opportunity to train, practise and compete using state-of-the-art equipment.

Pony rides were the order of the day on Sunday, with many children taking up the opportunity
