Caboolture train station has been evacuated after a bomb threat on board the tilt train.

Two hundred passengers were told to leave the train, which remains on the platform, and the station was cleared of people.

Police and Queensland Rail (QR) refused to reveal the nature of the incident, saying only that authorities were dealing with "suspicious activity", although it is understood a female passenger saw a man on board carrying a suspicious object.

"Police received information from a member of the public about alleged suspicious activity in the tilt train," a police spokeswoman said.

A Department of Transport spokeswoman confirmed the incident was a bomb threat. The station has been closed until further notice with rail services not expected to resume until 3pm.
