LISA Thompson launched her new nappy kit business in February last year and already has broken into the international market.

After finding herself out of work as a teacher aide, Ms Thompson s decided to follow a lifelong dream of starting her own business.

Now, with sales booming, she's not looking back.

"I was first being stocked in individual stores throughout Mackay, then different chemists in Queensland and NSW, Puma petrol stations and Australian airports,” she said.

"And now I've just recently heard back that my products are going to be stocked in New Zealand airports too, it's a huge deal for me to get stocked overseas.

"I've only been going for less than a year and I had no business training at all before this. There's been bumps along the way but big breaks like this make it worth it.”

The Apple of Your Eye kits - which include disposable nappies, a mat, pack of wipes and two bags for used nappies - are useful for parents travelling or on the go. "They're something that I wish was around a long time ago,” she said.

"I've got lots of great feedback from different parents so far who've tried them, they're just really convenient.”

Ms Thompson said her next goal was to have her products stocked in Ramsay private health hospitals and other Australian supermarkets and pharmacies.

"I've been working with the hospitals recently, so that is possibly on the horizon quite soon,” she said. "I also sent off a submission to Aldi last week so I'm hoping that comes through.

"My aim for this year is to have the business grow enough that it will support me as my sole source of income and be able to work on my dream from home, because at the moment I'm working part-time as well.”

The Apple of Your Eye nappy kits can be found locally at the Evans Avenue IGA, Carroll's News Mackay, Healthpoint Chemist on Sydney St, Mega Save Chemist and online.
