Mum-to-be left ‘depressed’ after discovering baby is a boy

WHETHER they own up to it or not, almost every expectant mother has a secret preference when it comes to their unborn baby's gender.

But one mum-to-be has been left devastated by the news she's having a boy instead of the baby girl she longed for.

Posting on Reddit's "Am I the A**hole?" forum, the woman's husband said she'd "made it very clear from before she was pregnant that she really wanted a daughter" - even making "the odd joke about 'sending it back' if it was a boy".

When the she did get pregnant, the woman began "crying with excitement" ahead of their 20-week scan "as she had a feeling it was a girl".

However, the parents-to-be instead found out they were expecting a baby boy - causing the woman to burst into tears on the spot.

One month later and the woman's partner claims "she still cries whenever someone mentions the baby" as well as "refuses to do anything with the nursery and won't discuss anything pregnancy related".

The mum is still refusing to discuss her pregnancy and won’t touch the nursery.

Labelling his wife's behaviour a "massive overreaction", the man then "told her she needs to come to terms with this because this isn't going to change".

In response, the heartbroken mum "cried and called [him] an a**hole".

Asking the forum whether he was in the wrong to question his wife's response, the man concluded: "I love the baby beyond words and am just upset she doesn't seem to anymore."

Unsurprisingly, other users were quick to sympathise with the husband's dilemma.

One user responded: "I get it, people have preferences on the sex of their unborn baby. I think it's pretty natural.

"HOWEVER, it deeply disturbs me when people obsess over the sex and put a lot of weight into it.

"A parent's job is to love and support their child unconditionally for who they are as a person. When parents obsess over the sex and act out like this when they don't get what they want, that's a terrible sign regarding their expectations as a parent."

Meanwhile, another wrote: "If she's this disappointed that she's having a boy, that means she's going to flip every time her child doesn't act according to her expectations."

However, others rallied around the disappointed mum and suggested she could be suffering from prenatal depression.

Offering some advice on how to lift her spirits, one user said: "Gender disappointment is real. Many pregnant women get it.

"From here on, you need to support her and show your excitement."

Another wrote: "There is such a thing as prenatal depression. I encourage therapy now, not just after the baby's born. She's suffering now, get her help now."
