Moura skate park gets funding boost

AN UPGRADE to Moura's skate park facilities is in the works after the council successfully applied for funding from the State Government's Get Playing Places and Spaces grant program.

The government will allocate $55,040 towards the upgrade.

The funding announcement comes after Banana Shire Council received a petition from the youth of Moura seeking improvements to the skate park on August 31.

Councillors then approved the submission of a grant application at the October 21 meeting, seeking funding for facilities for younger skaters, shading for the new facilities and a realignment of the park's pathway to separate the use of the pathway from the skating facilities.

Banana Shire Council is expected to meet 20 per cent of the costs of the upgrade under the contribution requirements of the grant.

The Biloela Junior Cricket Association also received $64,526 in funding for the construction of practice nets in the funding announcement.
