Moura kindergarten celebrates

THE Moura community recently celebrated a milestone event in style.

An open day fete marked the official 30 year celebration for Moura Community Kindergarten, with past and present staff and students in attendance.

Director of Moura Community Kindergarten Rebecca Byrne said although times had changed, the original ideas still remained.

"Staff and curriculum have changed over the years, however our focus on play-based learning is still the centre of our philosophy,” she said.

"Currently at Kindy, the children have a large outdoor environment where they can explore and create, inside we have accumulated many resources that are available to the children every day.”

The fete showcased the many ways to play in the outdoor environment including painting, bubbles, a sandpit, obstacle course and chalk drawing.

Parents and children were also able to view past memorabilia and class photos, as well as market stalls, raffles and games.

Many past staff members attended the celebration, sharing their memories of their time there.

"We were lucky enough to have three past Moura Kindergarten teachers attend, Mrs Barbara Marshall, Mrs Ellen Hills and Mrs Claudia Stephenson,” Ms Byrne said.

"Mrs Marshall was the teacher of the previous Kindergarten and well remembered in our town.

"She officially opened the Kindy in the 90's and did not want to miss an opportunity to visit again.”

Mr Byrne said the current staff and committee would like to thank everyone who had worked over the years for the Kindy including the steering committee members. "Without your hard work the Moura Community Kindergarten would not exist,” she said.
