BRIBIE Island's Matt Gillett says he's ready for a wild opening 15 minutes if he starts in next Wednesday night's opening State of Origin game at Suncorp Stadium.

The 25 year-old former Bribie Island Warrigals junior had start his previous six Origin games since 2012 off the bench.

However, with Brisbane Broncos team-mate Sam Thaiday (calf)  ruled out of the historical clash commemorating 100 Origins since 1980, coach Mel Meninga has promoted him into the No.12 jumper.

APN caught up with Gillett for a chat when the Queensland players assembled in Brisbane this week.
