Lost bushwalkers rescued by helicopter
THIRSTY, hungry and tired, two bush walkers lost in Carnarvon Gorge were winched to safety by the RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue yesterday.
The 31-year-old man and 28-year-old female were doing a cross country run when they lost the track they were running on, but were able to ring 000 and inform authorities of their situation.
They were able to ring 000 and inform authorities of their situation about 1pm.
They were found uninjured and in good spirits approximately eight kilometres from the grid reference they gave of their location when the helicopter crew spotted a light reflection from a space blanket they were using as a signalling aid.
Once a suitable winching point had been selected the RCO was winched down to the pair, prepared the two for a winch recovery and accompanied one in turn into the aircraft.
They had received no injuries and apart from being thirsty, hungry and tired were in good spirits and very glad to see us.
They were flown to Emerald after a stop at Rolleston for fuel.
