Hundreds of customers lose power across Mackay region

UPDATE: POWER has been restored to 98 customers in Marian, Yakapari, The Leap and Hampden and the majority of customers in Koumala. 

However, 38 customers in the Koumala area remain without power. 

INITIAL: CLOSE TO 250 people have lost power across the Mackay region this afternoon due to 'damage requiring immediate repairs'.

Residents in parts of Marian, Yakapari, The Leap and Hampden have been without power since about 6am and residents in parts of Koumala have been without power since just before 2pm.

According to Ergon Energy outage reports, crews are on site working to restore power to 98 customers on Miltons Lookout Rd, Pentecost Rd, Giumellis Rd, Pyms Ct, Bruce Hwy, Pyms Rd, Nine Mile Creek Rd and Zunkers Rd.

Meanwhile in Koumala and Christian Creek, crews are yet to determine what has caused 141 customers to lose power on Mount Christian Rd, Turnors Paddock Rd, Smart Rd, Price Rd, Campbells Rd, Bruce Hwy, Tedlands Rd, Cotters Rd, Cone Creek Rd, Schirmers Rd, Rocky Dam Rd, Swans Rd, Dennys Rd, Borstal Rd, Rileys Rd and Story Rd.

An estimated time of power resortation is at this stage unknown for all locations.

Further north, customers in parts of Proserpine have also been without power since just before 2pm.

Forty customers in Herbert St, Main St and Bruce Hwy have lost power due to a pole fire.
