Huge weekend of tennis to wrap up the season

THE Dawson Callide Valleys Seniors Tennis Association held its break-up at Theodore on November 9 and 10, with 25 players and non-players attending.

Visitors from Toowoomba, Yeppoon and Rockhampton joined local members from Taroom, Tannum Sands, Moura, Biloela and Theodore.

It was good to see Chris Goodwin (Theodore) joining the seniors for the first time.

The strong wind proved challenging for the players in the American tournament on the Saturday morning.

The men’s section was won by John Anderson of Theodore on 101 points, with Richard Moffat of Taroom second (91 points) and Goodwin third (90 points).

Dot Buckton of Yeppoon (103 points) won the ladies, with Louise Blomfield of Theodore second (95 points) and Barbara Wilson of Biloela third (77½ points).

John Beazley (Yeppoon) and Betty Searle (Toowoomba) won the most helpful prizes.

Betty and Dot then also won the two lucky door prizes.

The players then swapped racquets for bowls and a meal at the Bowls Club on Saturday night, and went back to social tennis on Sunday morning to complete a very enjoyable weekend.

Seniors tennis will commence for 2020 with social tennis, followed by the AGM in February.
