YOUR backside could be in for a big workout if you go overboard with the chocolate bunnies this weekend.
That was the message from nutrition experts of the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service who have reminded chocoholics to take it easy this Easter.
The Nutrition and Dietetics Department staff have shared a few tips to ensure healthy eating doesn't hop off the rails during a time when food, chocolate and sugary drinks are on the menu.
"If you knew a large chocolate Easter bunny may take the average person more than three hours of moderate walking to burn off, would you still eat it?" a department spokeswoman said.
Experts have shared some easy-to-follow tips to help residents avoid a chocolate overload.
"Smaller portion sizes are so important when temptation is all around us," the spokeswoman said.
"Maintaining healthy habits during the extended break, such as daily exercise, is one way to balance out the indulgences often associated with Easter."
Mixing up Easter egg hunts with both eggs and other items, such as stickers and small toys, eases the chocolate rush for children.
For Mountain Creek mother of two Nicole McCormack, Easter is not just about chocolate, but also about spending time with family and enjoying a few hours of leisure.
For the Easter Bunny visit, she said often the best combination was one or two eggs mixed with a small toy or a pair of pyjamas.
"We don't want Easter to be overboard," Mrs McCormack said.
