Have you seen this bike?
DEVASTATED is how Tim Ryan describes how his girlfriend’s eight year-old son felt when he saw his bike had been stolen.
Mr Ryan was called to Biloela State School at 3.10pm Monday afternoon after a fluorescent green Mongoose bike was stolen from the bike racks inside the school’s grounds.
The bike belongs to Ethan Venner and Mr Ryan said that Ethan cherishes this bike.
“He was devastated when we saw him yesterday afternoon after the principal called us and told us what happened,” Mr Ryan said.
“It always breaks your heart to see a child upset about losing something.
“We really hope we get it back for him.”
Mr Ryan and his partner filed a report with Biloela police that afternoon and Mr Ryan said that Ethan did not have a lock on his bike in the rack.
Senior Sergeant Nick Paton from the Biloela police said investigations were ongoing and there’s no suspect identified at this time.
“I had just fixed a flat tyre and everything else wrong with the bike a couple of weekends ago,” Mr Ryan said.
“He rode it all week to school last week and on Monday morning he rode it to school.
“We discovered that somebody had thrown his helmet on the ground, left it behind and took off with the bike.”
Mr Ryan believes Ethan’s bike has been targeted because of the bike’s popularity.
“We did drives around of the streets that afternoon and asked kids at the skate park if they’ve seen the bike and they hadn’t,” Mr Ryan said.
“Even the kids at the skate park were shocked because they don’t hear much of that kind of behaviour happening in the schools grounds.”
Anyone with information about the location of the bike or the incident should contact the Biloela police on 4992 2333 or CrimeStoppers at 1800 333 000.
