Girlie has no beef with the bulls

AFTER 30 years of dedicated service, Girlie Goody is showing no sign of slowing down with the Callide Dawson Beef Carcase Competition.

Elma, better known as "Girlie” was there from the start when it was a fledgling judging competition and has seen it grow into a popular event.

Her past 25 years was spent as treasurer and she has now stepped back from the role but will still play an active part.

"I have been a participant in all 30 competition years and treasurer since 1993 but I have now retired from it,” Ms Goody said.

"I'm a bit of carcase competition junkie and it's something I got into because of my father Hector Goody.”

The sprightly 79-year-old may have slowed down a bit but still isn't ready to put her feet up yet.

"There are some breeds of bull I want to see and more competitions to go into,” she said.

Ms Goody won the award in the HGP-free Coles Supermarket pen of three pasture or grain fed steers and/or heifers competition at the Brisbane Exhibition.

The 2018 Callide Dawson Beef carcase competition grand champion prize was won by Ms Goody out of 596 competitors.

"The competitions are great fun and you meet good people at them,” she said.

"Nominations are open in January to for the grain feed section of the competition,” she said.
