Your GoT finale menu sorted
The Game of Thrones finale is much more than a show - it'll be a mass moment that deserves food, drink and a detailed debrief after. Whether you're saving yourself for the evening, enjoying it late-morning at work with colleagues (thanks boss) or sneaking off to watch on the sly or in transit, you'll need sustenance for the 80 minutes of mayhem.
Delicious Editor-in-Chief Kerrie McCallum and Taste Editor-in-Chief Brodee Myers-Cooke provide food fit for a king - or a killing.
KERRIE: Night is right for me with GoT. I'll be saving myself to watch at home - and while I can't decide between contenders for the Iron Throne, these are my frontrunners for the banquet.
I would start with a crowd pleaser - Colin Fassnidge's Pork Belly Sausage Roll - because no one can go past a sausage roll and the pork belly makes this slightly richer and more sinister. Also, Colin looks and speaks a bit like a crazy John Snow.
I cannot go past this big hunk of meat on the bone - Sunday Roast Lamb with Cauliflower Couscous. This is what my favourite character, the wildling Tormund would definitely eat (and probably all to himself). A trusted and tried recipe that British chef Jason Atherton wrote for Delicious a few years ago. It's easy, meaty, soupy, rich and feeds an army! It's served with a sexy cauliflower rice which is part GoT/part OTM (of the moment).
Delicious food director Phoebe's famous warming Blackberry and Ginger Pie. I see blackberries being foraged in King's Landing plus berries were definitely enjoyed by the King's Watch. Or Mulled Wine Plum Cobbler - because I think this is all Tyrion drinks.
I will be drinking the brand spanking new vintage of Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz Gin neat - because this blood-coloured gin broke the internet, it has 'bloody' in the title, and you can drink it warm if you want.
BRODEE: Why wait if you don't have to? Viewing stats indicate almost half of all Aussie GoT fans will be glued to their sets in the late morning, whether at home or out, so here are some options to cover all bases.
For those watching at home:
It might not be cleverly moulded into the shape of a direwolf like Hot Pie's creations, but my personal hankering at 11am will be for a mighty carb-fest, fully loaded with cheese, ham, pepperoni and all the good things including slashings of blood red. This doughy pull-apart Pizza Strata Bake is right up Cersei's (RIP) alley.
To take into work and share:
We all know Sansa's absolute favourite is a lemon cake. If these sweet, snow-capped Lemon Meringue Cupcakes are good enough for a Lady, they'll be good enough for your office buddies. And will help sweet-talk the boss into allowing a viewing session.
For those in transit or watching on the sly:
They might not be lamprey pies from Kings Landing, but who in the Seven Kingdoms wants to eat pastry stuffed with jawless eels? We're sure the Night's Watch boys would prefer these Mini Beef Pies - perfect for eating on the go.
A two-tone hot choc is exactly what you need before taking on the White Walkers. Just make sure you drink it out of a goblet, not a takeaway coffee cup that you later leave lying around as evidence.
