Star's Cars: Australian netballer Gabi Simpson
IT'S been a big month for Australian netball mid-courter Gabi Simpson.
On top of making her international debut for the Diamonds in a win against New Zealand, she's had the honour of being asked our searching questions about her motoring life thus far.
The Queensland Firebirds' rising star probably found the representing Australia bit the more memorable, but she still threw some diamond-encrusted answers our way.
What was your first car?
I grew up driving around in a little baby blue Mazda2. It was a very easy car to learn to drive in but unfortunately it had its last ride when it got T-boned by another car and ended up on top of the safety railing along the roadside.
What are you driving now?
A turquoise Suzuki Vitara, and I absolutely love it. It's so easy to drive up the highway with the roof open and get a bit of sun. There's plenty of room to drive my long-limbed netball friends around without having their knees in the back of the seat and yet there's still space for luggage.
What cars did your family have while you were growing up?
There was the Mazda2 I learnt to drive in, and before that we had something I called the red bubble car, but I don't remember what sort of make or model it was.
What is your greatest frustration on the road?
Growing up in Sydney, my biggest frustration is when people slow right down when going through tunnels and as soon as they leave the tunnel, all the traffic miraculously disappears.
Do you have any preferred driving music?
I love a good old sing-a-long!
If you were to pick anyone in the world to go on a road trip, who would it be and why?
Amy Schumer (American comedian and actress) - nothing better than a good laugh distracting you from a long road trip.
What would be your dream car if money were no object?
I can't go past a Range Rover. (May we suggest a Range Rover LWB Autobiography Black - it could probably comfortably fit a netball team on board).
