Drovers overcome Pioneers

AN Andrew Sampson penalty three minutes from full-time secured Dawson Valley Drovers a second consecutive victory and only their second win of the season.

Playing in Rockhampton against Frenchville Pioneers Drovers claimed the premiership points with a 24-21 win.

Club president Mick Austin described the clash as exciting.

“It was seven each at half-time and then, with three minutes to go, deadlocked at 21-a-piece before Andrew's kick - 10 metres in from the sideline.”

“It was great to see the guys getting some results for all the hard work they had been putting in over the season.”

With six matches remaining until the end of the season, Drovers are still a mathematical chance of making the play-offs.

“Last year we won three games and the goal for the boys now is to improve on that this season.”

Prop Ross Sparkes was named player of the match, with Ryan Brownlie and Mitch Lona also playing well.
