Double header for punters
HORSE RACING: Thangool Race Club will host a double header of fun and excitement with something for everyone on Australia Day long weekend.
The two features on January 26 will be the Australia Day celebrations followed by a five-race meet afterwards.
Thangool Race Club secretary Edwina Devine said the day would be a great one with heaps for the public to do.
"There will be a good field of horses for the racing because there is not much country racing on the day and expect a good size crowd,” Devine said.
"Not only is the horse racing on but there will be heaps of other activities.”
The race meet is expected to attract interest around Central Queensland with Gladstone, Rockhampton and Emerald providing a strong field with local riders as well. The morning program will feature the Australia Day celebrations with awards.
The first race will be out of the gates around 12pm and the last one mid-afternoon.
Race one is the Benchmark 65 Handicap 1200M BM65, race two - Benchmark 55 Handicap 1400M BM55, race three - Benchmark 55 Handicap 800M BM55, race four - Class B Handicap 1075M CLB and race five - QTIS Maiden Plate (2YO & UP - Set Weights) 800M 2UP MDN-SW. The course will stay open until 6pm.
"It will be a great way for friends and family to spend the Australia Day long weekend,” Devine said.
"There will be jumping castles for the kids to help keep them entertained and novelty racing for the spectators to join in the fun.”
