Don’t be fooled by election propaganda
RETIRING division 3 Banana Shire councillor Pat Brennan is stepping aside to make way for some ‘fresh personnel’.
Serving as councillor for 12 years, Mr Brennan warned residents not to get caught up and lose their heads during the barrage of messages as the March Local Government elections draw near.
“No doubt over the next two months people will be inundated with election propaganda in how they will change the leadership role of council,” Mr Brennan said.
“What the old council did wrong and how they will drastically improve the council model.
“All I can say is let the next four years be the judge of what is promised.”
Mr Brennan said he was proud of what he had contributed during his time with council and what council had achieved also in his 12 years.
“There’s over 3000 kilometres of gravel roads that are in a much better condition than they were in 2008,” Mr Brennan said.
“Council obtained the best possible deal from the gas companies as the gas lines transverse our shire.
“And there’s now many kilometres of underground infrastructure, water and sewerage drainage in all our towns.”
Mr Brennan said council had done well in working closely with the shire’s major employers, the meatworks, power station and mines to support the region’s existing economic base.
“Council has been active in the Regional Road Group, whose focus is to get produce and goods to their destination with minimal disruptions and improve regional routes through shire boundaries,” Mr Brennan said.
“We have always worked within our budget and this is reinforced by our council’s economic sustainability figures.”
