Over 0.05% and drove your car earlier? Dial-a-driver

ROCKHAMPTON drivers have a new option when going out, with Dial a Driver .05 starting their business in Rockhampton today.

The service is simple - you drive yourself for a night out and when you are ready to go home you call Dial a Driver .05, who come to pick you up and drive you home in your own car safely.

Rockhampton Branch Manager David Lewis said he did not intend to kick off the business until early March, but the phone has been ringing off the hook so he will officially start offering the service today.

"We knew it would be popular, but the phone has been going off the hook," David said.

But the business is more than just a taxi service with a difference, David said the big goal was to get people to avoid drink driving and still be able to get their car home safely.

"It just exploded on Facebook especially; the phone has been ringing from that, getting enquiries from some of the local pubs that want to work in for us to provide another option for their customers," he said.

"It's great to have an alternative, it's great to have something like us as a plan B, most people who end up getting themselves in trouble or hurt drink driving don't plan it."

The business will run seven nights a week and until 5am on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
