Sunshine Coast sporting couple Grant Kenny and Lisa Curry have released a statement saying they are separating after 23 years of marriage.

The couple said in a statement they had agreed to an amicable separation.

“This has been difficult for both of us and the children and we ask that people respect our privacy at this time,” the couple said in a statement.

“We will not be making any further comments.”

It is understood Curry, 47, moved out of the couple’s Sunshine Coast home on Monday after they decided on an amicable separation.

Rumours of a split between the former ironman champion and the former swimming champion have circulated for several years.

The couple, who have both represented Australia in Olympic competition, tied the knot in 1986 and have three children – Jaimi, Morgan and Jett.

Grant is currently involved in the Queensland State of Origin campaign as a motivational speaker.

The couple own the Curry Kenny Aviation Group, a leader in Australian aviation operations that employs about 30 staff and operates the biggest helicopter maintenance facility on the Sunshine Coast.

Lisa underwent heart surgery in 2008 where she was fitted with a cardio-defibrillator. Later that year she was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment for complications arising from the surgery.

It is reported that no third-party is involved in the split.
