Community helps Hartwell family

THE Moura community has rallied around the family of Natalie Hartwell, who was killed in an accident near Banana two weeks ago.

Everyone from local businesses to passing tourists have put their hand in their pockets and donated to the Chris Hartwell Appeal.

Theresa Evans, assistant manager at Cornette's IGA Moura, said the appeal had raised over $9000.

“Tourists have been putting in $50 and several businesses had put in large sums.

“People have been really supportive of it,” she said.

Theresa said the collection buckets around the town were full of $50 and $20 notes.

Theresa said Chris had not yet returned to his role as a butcher at the shop, but he and Natalie's family were grateful for the support.

She said the donations would really help them in a time of need.

The bowls club is holding a benefit bowls weekend on the weekend of June 13-14.

Donations can be made to the Chris Hartwell appeal at Moura IGA.
