Cockies off to the big dance

BILOELA'S reserve grade rugby union side has booked a place in the grand final.

The Biloela Cockatoos beat Colts 22-15 in Moura and now wait to see if they will face Rockhampton's Colts again or the Cap Coast Crocs in the grand final.

Cockatoos president Tim Hollingworth said regardless of the opponent, there was belief in Biloela.

"We're confident we can go all they way,” Hollingworth said.

"We've beaten Cap Coast twice significantly this year.

"We beat Colts on the weekend and the week before and they beat us a fortnight before that.”

With players not exactly growing on trees in the Biloela region, making the grand final is quite an coup for the club.

"It's a huge achievement. We've struggled with numbers this year,” Hollingworth said.

"We've always had the potential.

"I did think at the start of the year it was a long shot because we were so short on players.

"Throughout the season we've had new players and gained ability to win it.

"It's a good achievement for the guys that have stuck it out.

"It'll be a big boost for the club hopefully coming into next year.”

The Cockatoos are keen to write another chapter in the club's history.

"It's been three years since we won a grand final,” Hollingworth said.

"It's what you play for.

"Finals football is a different game and everyone steps it up to a different level.”

The Cockatoos reserve grade side will play the grand final on August 17 at Rugby Park, Rockhampton, with kick-off time still to be confirmed.

The club's ladies' team will also play on the day in a Women's 7s grand final tournament.
