Club targets new members

THIS is a club that is self-sufficient, a club that has people representing the club and the state, but not everyone in the town even knows it exists.

It is the Callide Valley District Darts Association.

President Wayne Watson said the club was formed in 1984 and men, women and juniors have been playing ever since.

The club has its own hall which was purchased by founding members.

"The founding members put their houses up as collateral and we are now debt free and self-sufficient,” Watson said.

The club's hall is licensed and the 45 members meet every Tuesday for competition and Friday for social darts yet Watson said people were still unaware they were there.

"We are a strong community facility and have been for a long time but people don't know we are here.”

Watson said there is a great atmosphere in the club and the people make it worthwhile attending.

"I have built up a lot of friendships through the club, not just in the town but through representing as well,” he said.

"The feedback of other people is that the enjoy the club and coming out to Biloela to play due to the atmosphere.”

Watson has been the president for more than 10 years and said the club is affiliated with the Queensland association and people are able to represent the region at different

levels.

On a Tuesday night the play in teams of four - singles, doubles and teams. On Friday any one is welcome to join the social darts with members willing to guide you through the rules and how to play.

"It doesn't matter if you haven't played before, there are people that will help you as much as they can and give you advice.

"There is no expectations, the only one is that you enjoy it and have fun.”
