Chilean stars named in Cup squad for Brazil

FOOTBALL: Australia's group stage opponents at the World Cup in Brazil have announced their provisional 30-man squad.

Injured Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal and Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez (pictured) headlined Chile's group.

Coach Jorge Sampaoli resisted naming any major surprises in the squad, pinning his hopes on Vidal recovering from knee surgery for the opening game against the Socceroos.

Manchester United's Robin van Persie was named as captain of the Netherlands side after coach Louis van Gaal named his provisional squad.

As expected, Bayern Munich wideman Arjen Robben, Galatasaray playmaker Wesley Sneijder and former Tottenham star Rafael van der Vaart also make the list.

There was one surprise omission in Spain's squad, with Real Madrid's Isco missing out. Chelsea's Fernando Torres made the cut.
