Blackwater show class in hard win

BILOELA Rugby Union continued their recent good form but were unable to repeat their sensational victory of the week before, losing 24-7 to competition front runners Blackwater in Blackwater on Saturday.

Biloela started the game running into a very strong breeze and defended valiantly throughout the first half.

This defence was lead by Trent Butler, Luke Milin and Joe O'Reagain in the backs and Chris Dawson, Peter Ross and Darren Ainthorpe in the forwards. Blackwater opened the scoring with a penalty after 15 minutes to lead 3-0.

Biloela were unlucky not to open their account with both wingers, Matt Dawson and Laurie London, finding space after excellent lead up work by the inside backs.

Unfortunately, Biloela let in a late converted try to let Blackwater go to the break leading 10-0.

Biloela started the second half confidently with lose forward Rob Wessling leading the way.

But it the Blackwater side's class allowed them to make the most of their limited opportunities and they opened the scoring after 15 minutes of the second half. Biloela needed to be the next to score and they did when Joe O'Reagain crossed after an excellent kick and chase by Robin Adams and Rob Wessling resulted in a five-metre scrum.

This narrowed Blackwater's lead to 17-7 after the try was converted by Justin Pokerier from the sideline.

Biloela were unable to reduce this gap further and conceded a final try to Blackwater in the dying minutes of the game to result in a 24-7 scoreline.

Biloela's best on the day were Rob Wessling, Trent Butler and Luke Milne who continue to show excellent work in defence and attack.

Biloela's next game is against Moura at 3.00pm on Saturday at Rugby Park.
