Biloela Rugby kicking off

RUGBY UNION: The Biloela Rugby Union Club will be kicking off its 2019 season campaign with a "Try Rugby Night” on January 29 at 6.30pm.

Club president Tim Hollingworth said the night was to get anyone interested in having a run this season to pull on the boots and run.

"This will be the first training session and sign on for the rugby union club near the Biloela show grounds and its for seniors, ladies and juniors from under-12 to under-17,” Hollingworth said.

"We are working on getting a development officer out from Rockhampton to assist with some skills and drills for the players and get a good turn out for the night.”

Last year was the rugby club's step up into A-grade and despite playing a good season, lost in the semi-finals to Rockhampton Brothers.

The previous couple of years to that, the men's team had won reserve grade.

"As a club we are always looking forward, not backwards and want to continue in the A-grade competition,” he said.

The club is also keen to field and women's team again this year in the competition.

"The women first started in 2017 and they can't play every week because there isn't enough sides in the competition but we are looking at fielding a side again this year.”

The come and try night will be at the rugby union grounds on Callide Street.

A meet and greet for players, coaches, sponsors and supporters will be held at Settlers Hotel, upstairs function room on February 2 starting at 6pm.

For any more information about signing on or the upcoming function can contact Hollingworth on
