Barack Obama touches down in Brisbane for G20 summit

US President Barack Obama has arrived Brisbane, in time for G20 summit's first official events.

Mr Obama's Air Force One plane touched down at the Amberley RAAF Base shortly before 6am.

The President gave a quick wave as he stepped out of the plane and jogged down the stairs, where he was greeted by Governor-General Peter Cosgrove, Premier Campbell Newman and Attorney-Gerneal George Brandis.

Mr Obama immediately boarded one of his presidential helicopters, with his entourage of two choppers and three planes landing in Victoria Park in Herston.

He then got into his car, a Cadillac known as "The Beast", with a motorcade at least 40 vehicles in tow.

The President, who is staying at Brisbane's Marriott Hotel, is due to deliver a speech to a select audience at the University of Queensland later today.

Overnight, Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived at the Brisbane Airport where he was greeted by Queensland Governor Paul de Jersey and the Official Secretary to Australia's Governor-General, Mark Fraser.
