Banana Shire hosts writers and illustrators festival

BANANA Shire book lovers and avid readers will be spoiled for choice this weekend with a plethora of activities available.

The Banana Shire Writers and Illustrators Festival and Giant Book Sale will be a must do event for bookworms.

There will be an opportunity to engage with talented writers and illustrators who are living in the Banana Shire or were raised here.

Come and meet published writers and illustrators, including Trevor Shaw, Therese Creed, Debbie Graving, Glee Sellin, Hannah Seth, Christine Bongers, and Sarah Larsen.

Banana Shire Council mayor Nev Ferrier said this was a great opportunity for local talented authors and illustrators to learn from their experiences.

"This is a great way to inspire the community to attend these workshops and listen and learn how our local talent has been successful,” Cr Ferrier said.

"These workshops come about due to successful funding from the state government and the State Library of Queensland to assist the hosting of this event.”

The Giant Book Sale will be at the St Gabriel's Hall, just behind the library, and will have a variety of books to suit everyone.

Banana Shire Libraries regularly review collections to keep them fresh and relevant. So many books for sale are still in good condition.

Bargains include adult fiction, junior fiction, magazines and non-fiction.
