AUSTRALIAN supermarket giant Woolworths is being sued over claims by computer company Apple that the chain's use of a stylized green 'W' is similar to it's own trademarked logo.
Woolworths introduced the the new logo, which resembles a piece of fruit, last year as part of the chain's rebranding as the "fresh food people".
The supermarket ran into trouble with it's new logo while trying to register it as a trademark in the same category that Apple operates in; computing.
Apple already uses its logo to identify its retail stores, as does Woolworths.
Woolworths claims their logo is simply a stylized "W" paired with an "abstract leaf symbol", but a number of critics claim it's remarkably similar to an "apple being peeled".
Last year Apple sued the Victoria School of Business and Technology, claiming their logo was too similar.
