Drivers unhurt in Taroom accidents

TWO Roma men have had lucky escapes from separate accidents near Taroom this week.

Taroom Police Sergeant Bill Brennan said on Wednesday, a 27-year-old man rolled his Ford Falcon sedan on the notorious Fitzroy Development Road.

Sergeant Brennan said the man braked heavily in wet conditions, and his car left the road and rolled.

The driver was not injured but his car was a write-off, according to the officer.

Sergeant Brennan said the accident could have been avoided with the driver possibly going too fast for the wet conditions on the gravel road, and charges for the driver were possible.

Earlier in the week, Sergeant Brennan, with the assistance of the SES, pulled a car from a flooded creek on the Roma-Taroom Road.

A 60-year-old man and his two-wheel drive Hilux had to be pulled from a flooded creek at about 1pm about 40km from Taroom.

Sergeant Brennan said the man had driven into the water across the road and the vehicle had started to float away.

He said it didn’t float far and the vehicle was able to be recovered, but it was water damaged.

Sergeant Brennan said after the recent wet weather, and with more expected over the weekend, it was a timely reminder for drivers to drive to conditions.

He said drivers should not ignore road closure signs and should check the depth of any flooded roads.

No charges would be laid for the driver caught in the flooded creek.
