Garden guru urges natural way

HEADS turned and many in the audience gave quizzical looks, scarcely believing what they had heard.

GADREN GABFEST: Annette Weier traveled over from Moura to listen to ABC gardening guru Tom Wyatte speak in Biloela on Wednesday

HEADS turned and many in the audience gave quizzical looks, scarcely believing what they had heard.

ABC gardening guru Tom Wyatt had just told a large crowd to use their own urine to keep away insects from fruit and vegies in their garden.

“A cup of pee to four and a half litres of water with a wetting agent will keep insects away,” Tom said.

“You don't have coffee where your cat takes a pee, and an insect won't go near your trees with your pee there.”

Tom said human urine, which he labelled “God's solution”, would also help bleeding cuts acquired in the garden heal quicker than anything else.

“If you are cut and bleeding then just go behind the shed and do this,” he said, turning away from his audience as if to put his method into practice.

The big crowd was listening to him speak in the garden section at Home Hardware on Wednesday, part of the Biloela Food and Comedy Festival.

Annette Weier had travelled over from Moura just to hear Tom speak.

The Moura woman said she didn't have any fruit or vegetables in her garden.

“If I had known all I need to do is pee on them I would have some,” Annette joked.

The mother-of-four, who lives on a property her partner works on, manages to find time for her garden, which she said had “a bit of everything”.

Annette said she had heard the gardening guru before, but rarely listened to his regular Friday morning show.

“I don't listen as I'm always in the garden.”

She said water was not an issue for her large garden as the property was close to the river.
