STAFF at the Biloela Hospital didn't even know the last names of two contractors when the pair volunteered to shave their heads for a good cause.

The staff has been raising money for a fellow staff member and her family, who is currently undergoing radiation treatment in Brisbane.

John Pratchett and Tom Wade were contracted to install the new generator at the hospital when the plan developed.

"We got a new generator and these guys had been working on it through John Goss Projects," Director of nursing Joy Pittman said.

"We thought we would have a barbecue to celebrate and we were sitting around talking about fundraising we have been doing for this staff member and somehow the idea of shaving came up.

"These guys said they would do it and then there was money flying around the table.

"I said I would shave my beard if they got $500 and now they are well over it," Tom said.

"They are just incredible doing this," Joy said.

Niikea from the Hair Shop helped out with the shave while hospital staff enjoyed a barbecue thanks to Rainbow Street Butchery.

More than $5000 was raised.
